Updating your kitchen can feel daunting, and considering the potential costs makes many people shy away from a kitchen upgrade.
But giving your kitchen an upgrade doesn’t have to break the bank, says JD William’s Head of Home Design, Rebecca Baddeley. Below, she shares 7 easy ways to give your kitchen an upgrade that can be done in a weekend or afternoon.
- Give your cabinets a refresh
Rebecca says: “Not only is it cost-effective, but it’s perfect for brightening up your kitchen. Give your cabinets a new splash of life by repainting them with a fresh coat of paint. To make your space feel more modern, swap out your knobs and handles for an instant upgrade. It’s a quick and affordable way to update your cabinets.”
- Regrout the back splash
“If you have existing tiles, regrouting them can restore their original look and make them shine – and it’s something you can easily do on a weekend afternoon. If you’re looking to change up the back splash without a big investment, peel-and-stick tiles are a great DIY option. Not only are they budget friendly, they also come in a variety of styles for you to choose from.”
- Update your countertops
“As well as painting cupboards or walls, decluttering and rearranging can completely transform your space”, says Rebecca.
“Start by removing excess items from your worktops and keep only the essentials. Once you’ve decluttered, it’s all about styling your countertops.
Organise your countertop items in groups to firstly allow for space to use, but this will also create a more structured look. Once you have decided where your essentials are going, you can add decorative elements to it. A beautiful tray can be placed behind a fruit bowl to variety to the background, wooden chopping boards add texture, and vases and plants add cosiness to the space.”
- All about lighting
“A simple way to transform any room is by investing in your lighting. Under-cabinet lighting can make a kitchen look more put together while offering functionality, while statement pendant lights or table lamps help create a warm and cosy atmosphere.”
- Add some style with a rug
“A new rug is ideal for adding warmth, texture, and a splash of colour to your kitchen. Opt for a rug that’s practical and durable like a washable or indoor/outdoor rug – ensuring it can handle spills and footfall as well as looking stylish.”
- The power of paint
“A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to brighten and refresh a space.” Rebecca suggests: “Depending on your kitchen layout and how bright your room is, having a play with the colour of your walls can change the whole room. From dark accent walls to earthy greens, being bold with colour can help to open up the space and create a cosy atmosphere.”
- Install a budget-friendly vinyl floor
“If your flooring is outdated, replacing it with a vinyl floor can be a great solution. Vinyl is budget-friendly and can mimic the look of tiles, stone or wood. Choose peel-and-stick vinyl tiles or planks for an easy and cost-effective upgrade.”
