It doesn’t matter whether you’re planning to use your garage every day for different projects, or you’re wanting to use it for general household use, there are a selection of essential items that your garage won’t be the same without. The garage is the perfect space to keep all of your tools and appliances that don’t really have a space in your home, but that you still need close by for the odd use, and it’s always beneficial to have those essential items, just in case.
Hands on Workbench
One of the most popular and often desirable garage items is a workbench. There’s something exciting about having your very own workspace dedicated to storing, and often displaying, your selection of tools. Workbenches provide you with the perfect area to work on projects, or even do small odd jobs that need to be done for the house. Not only does having a workbench give you a place to work and be messy without having to worry about causing any damage, it also enables you to keep things neat and tidy, storing everything related to your tool kit in one place. There are so many amazing workbenches available online and in hardware stores along with folding step stools, so it’s really worth having a good look around before investing in one, to make sure it’s the perfect style for you.
Roof and Wall Storage
This may seem like a strange essential for the garage, but having plenty of storage is really important. This type of storage comes in particularly handy when you use your garage for keeping your car safe, or even when you need the floorspace for other projects and so on. Roof storage can be installed to store boxes and other larger items, as it can often be a pain having these taking up valuable floor space. You could then use shelving units on the walls to store other items such as wall paint tubs, gardening tools, car cleaning products and so on. This is also a really good way to keep your garage neat and organised, meaning you know where everything is.
A Bike Rack
If you’re someone who’s into bike riding and has your own bike that you store at home, then your garage really needs a bike rack. Investing in a bike rack will enable you to keep your pride and joy stored neatly away, whilst also having it proudly on show. It also makes it much easier for you to change the wheels or pump up the tyres too, as you can work on it whilst it’s sat in the racks holders.
Shoe Rack and Pegs
For some people, the garage is the second entrance to the house, and often the entrance used when there are muddy feet and wet coats entering. Create a small mud-room style area in your garage that can be used whenever your wellies or shoes are too dirty to bring into the house. You could also keep a pair of slippers there to give you something to wear when entering the house. It’s also really useful to add a selection of pegs or a coat rack to the area, as you can keep all heavier, winter coats in the garage and save some much-needed space inside the house.
Utility Appliances
Having a utility area in the garage is becoming a really popular choice for many households today. Creating a dedicated space with essential items such as a washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes horse are really useful and free up some much-needed space within the house too. It’s also great for taking the noise that can be created from washing machines and tumble dryers out of the house and utilising the space in the garage properly.
