Whether you work from home every day, or you simply need a space to work from every now and then, there are some really useful design tips to ensure your home office is the perfect place for you to focus and get things done. It’s so easy to get distracted when you’re at home, it doesn’t matter if you have young children running around, pets that want your attention or your simply distracted by the big pile of washing that needs to be done, there’s always going to be something. This is why it’s so beneficial to dedicate a certain area of your home to separate yourself from everything else going on in your home.

Choose a Quiet Spot

Certain areas of the house are always going to be louder and busier than others, it doesn’t matter how big or small your family may be. The main hubs of activity tend to be areas like the kitchen, living room and garden, so it’s a good idea to try and locate your office away from these parts of the house. By choosing a quieter part of the home, you’re going to make it much easier for you to concentrate and focus, as you won’t have the constant distraction of noise whilst you’re trying to work. It will also make it much easier for you to crack on and get things done if you’re located in an area that people aren’t using frequently, as you won’t be interrupted by people popping their heads in for a quick chat every 5 minutes!

Make the Most of Space

Space is key for concentration, no matter how large or small a room may be. If you design a room that is cramped with furniture pieces, leaving you hardly any room to breathe, then you’re not going to be able to work to the best of your potential. Designing an office that has open spaces is really going to help, as not only will the room feel fresh and spacious, but there will be a positive energy that will help you to concentrate properly. When it comes to adding the furniture to your office, play around with the layout for a little while until you find the one that works best for you, then you’ll know you’ve made the right choice.

Gain a Balance

Colours are difficult when it comes to choosing a scheme that is going to help with concentration, as many can be distracting or demotivating. There is a lot of psychology behind different colours and how they affect your moods, so it is a really important stage to think about when decorating your own office. Choose the colours that motivate you, make you feel good and have a positive energy, as these are going to help you feel your best and concentrate. Avoid dark, dull colours such as black and brown however, as these are known to make you feel tired and solemn, which is not what you want when you’re trying to get work done.

Practical but Fun

Whilst its essential to include key office items such as your oak filing cabinet, stylish desk and swivel chair, you can also have a little fun with your furniture at the same time. Introduce items that are going to make you work better, even if they are a little gimmicky or fun, as it’s often found that during that 2-3-minute break, a little distraction can help to relax the brain and put you in the right frame of mind to continue with whatever you’re working on.
